Gentle Movement
You might know it as Qigong

You might not have heard the word 'Qigong' before. That's okay. Think of it as gentle movement but with a purpose. Slow, mindful, and surprisingly powerful.
I teach it right here in Christchurch, and I promise: no experience needed. No special clothing. No beliefs required.
Just a body and a willingness to move gently.
So What is Qigong?
No twisting into pretzels. No jumping or exhausting dances. Just deliberate, mindful movement that feels good in your body.

Imagine moving slowly, deliberately, without tensing any muscles. Co-ordinating each movement with your breath. Sometimes standing, sometimes seated. Always at your own pace.
It Looks Gentle Because It Is. But There's a Lot Going On.
Your Fascia: The Body's Hidden Web
Have you heard of fascia? It's this incredible, continuous web of connective tissue that wraps around every muscle, bone and organ in your body.
When it's healthy, it's supple and glides smoothly. When it's not, from stress, sitting, or just life in general, it gets sticky and tight.

The slow movements of Qigong are essentially a gentle massage for your fascia. They rehydrate the tissues, restore glide, and help everything move the way it's supposed to.
You feel: Less stiff. More ease. Able to move more freely
Those gentle Qigong movements? They're manually pumping lymph through your system
.
Your Lymphatics: The Body's Drainage Crew
This is one of my favourite parts.
Your lymphatic system is your body's built-in waste disposal unit. It carries away metabolic junk/toxins, and supports your immunity (wei qi).
Here's the catch though, it has no automatic pump of its own. It relies entirely on you. Your movement keeps things flowing.
Those gentle Qigong movements? They're squeezing and releasing your tissues, manually pumping lymph through the system.

The deep breathing? That creates pressure changes that draw lymph upward toward your heart and back into the system, keeping it all flowing.
You're not just waving your arms about. You're actively supporting your body's ability to clean itself.
You feel: Lighter. Less puffy. Clearer. Like your body just had an amazing detox session.
The slow, rhythmic nature of Qigong sends a clear signal to your brain: 'We're safe.'
Your Nervous System: The Calm Button
Then there's the nervous system. The slow, rhythmic nature of Qigong sends a clear signal to your brain: 'We're safe.'
This activates your parasympathetic and sympathetic mode, ( 'rest and digest'), and helps tone down the stress response. Lower cortisol. Lower heart rate. Quieter mind.

You feel: Calmer. More settled. Like someone finally turned down the volume on the noise.
No Woo Required
You don't need to believe in 'energy.' You just need a body.

Qigong meets you where your at, and gently helps everything work better.
The ancient masters described what they observed, which can sound pretty mystical. Today, we have new language to describe those same phenomena: fascial hydration, lymphatic flow, nervous system regulation.
It's the same river. Just a different map.
